Media Access Project Threatens Suit Over Adelphia Sale

Media Access Project, a Washington public interest firm, has threatened to take legal action against the FCC if it approves Comcast’s purchase of certain Adelphia cable systems. The issue relates to whether Comcast should be permitted to control more than 30% of US multichannel video subscribers.

More Than Adelphia Communities Affected by Time Warner-Comcast Purchase

The Time Warner-Comcast purchase of Adelphia, together with related redemptions and exchanges, will make this transaction the most complicated since the cable industry began to consolidate about 10 years ago. Importantly, the transaction, taken as a whole, will affect not only the 3,000 or so communities currently served by Adelphia, but many communities now served by either Time Warner or Comcast, too.

CWA, IBEW Begin Campaign Against Comcast

The Communications Workers of America (CWA) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) have launched another campaign targeted at Comcast’s ownership structure. The unions are urging shareholders to take action at Comcast’s annual meeting, to be held in Philadelphia on June 1. Each of the unions’ three proposals are targeted at reducing CEO Brian Roberts’ control of Comcast, a company that Brian’s father founded.

FCC Grants Emergency Stay to Comcast
