Senators Burns and Inouye Release Principles for Video Franchising Reform

Today, Senators Burns and Inouye released a joint statement promoting certain principles related to video franchising reform. Both are members of the Senate’s Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee – in fact, Senator Burns is the Senior Majority Member and Senator Inouye serves as Co-Chairman of the Committee.

The espoused principles will be embraced by both local governments and the cable industry because the Senators largely support the existing cable franchising process: or, as the statement puts it, the “‘deliberately structured dualism’ where state and local authorities have primary responsibility for administration of the franchising process within certain federal limits.”

Wireless Philadelphia Agreement with Earthlink Nearly Complete
